My Personal Style

Full disclaimer: I'm no fashionista. I don't make every day my runway. I love following people about their style and hauls more than I like doing it for myself. Part of this is because I am currently overweight after finally being diagnosed with a couple of syndromes that I am slowly fighting. I'm far less motivated because of that, although I do still enjoy putting an outfit together sometimes, depending on my mood. I used to be way more into this, but that changed when my weight did. I still love shopping, reading blogs, and scrolling through Instagram for style inspo, but when I put together an outfit, it's a little less about looking awesome, and a little more about feeling comfortable in my own skin.

In general, I dress pretty casually during the day, but I do love a glam look at night. In saying that, I'm a cocktail dress type gal at the maximum. Floor length always feels like a good idea until you spend the whole time you're wearing it holding your skirt up so you don't fall flat on your face. A side slit helps with this a little, but stairs are always a gamble. This is why I'm OK wearing a maxi in the day, when it's a stretchy cotton. Carrying something up and down the stairs? Just tie it in a knot at the side and you're sorted. I love a good black skinny jeans and blouse combo. It hugs my legs, but allows for flowy fabric around my tummy. You can also get so many blouses in beautiful colours, and cute prints, like one I own from ASOS with little cacti on it. I love a slogan tee, but that slogan better match my mood and sit in just the right spot.

If I have something coming up and have an idea of what I want to wear, but can't find the thing I'm looking for, I might make it. I learnt to sew as a teenager, and am confident enough that I will create an outfit and wear it to something. It's always finished at the last minute, but I get there in the end. I'm not confident in making pants or jackets, but a dress, top or skirt I can manage.

I think a bright or dark lip pulls any outfit together, so if my outfit is a bit blah and I happen to care that day, I'll put extra effort into my hair and makeup, slash, put some on at all. I am lucky though in that my eyebrows don't need filling in on the daily and that my eyelashes are reasonable dark, so I'm fortunate that I don't ever feel like I have to have brows or mascara done before I leave the house.

The thing about my weight effecting my love of putting together an outfit is that it makes me love accessories, bags and shoes a lot more than I used to. I love a good bag, although for daytime outfits, I only own black bags. Except for one that borderlines on a briefcase, which you won't see me sporting outside a meeting. I need to actually buy a bright bag. I'm often putting together an outfit, realise I'm in 90% black, and wish I had a different bag to wear.  I'm not the best heels wearer. I love a boot heel, but no stilettos will be worn around here. I have elastic band ankles thanks to my many years of playing netball and rolling my ankles all the time. I love a good pair of Converse, a ballet flat, or sandal, and I wish i had the calves for brogues.

In a nutshell, when I'm in the mood, I'll spend time picking out an outfit, doing my hair and makeup and making an event out of it, but when I can't, I'll throw on what's clean and works together, put my hair in a bun, and head out the door. Here's a quick peak into what I'd wear on the daily...
