Together by Julie Cohen

Together is a beautiful tale, told in backwards chronological order. We first learn about the characters in their older life, then their life together, back to when they met. It's a really interesting way to find out someone's story.

Together was beautiful, eloquent, fast paced and exciting. There are lots of twists and turns that add an interesting tweak to the story just when you're getting comfortable. It definitely forces you to not think of people as a straight line. Their previous life will have had a massive effect on them, even if it doesn't seem like it years later when they are settled into a new life or situation. This isn't necessarily only written from one perspective, so you see both sides of their story, together and apart.

It was a quick read for me, but I so badly wanted to know the secret, I just kept reading, even when I had other stuff I needed to get done. It drew me into the story and their world. You'll probably be surprised for the ending, I wasn't expecting the secret to be that, although many possibilities went through my mind as I read this.

The themes in this book include love, anguish, longing, betrayal and a whole lot of personal development. It's certainly an interesting read, with all of these elements intertwined with the story.

I'd recommend Together if you love a mystery, a romance, a coming of age story, or just a deeper novel.
