The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black | Book Review

The Darkest Part of the Forest takes place in a town where magical things happen. There is a horned prince in a glass coffin that tourists come from everywhere to see and faeries and beasts in the woods. The story follows a pair of siblings as crazy things happen around them. I thought this was a great story with good pacing. It was a fast story with things constantly happening.

I don’t usually read fantasy so this was a little bit of a gamble for me. I had heard great things though so I had quite high expectations. I thought it was a great combination with the young adult and romance aspects as well. It wasn’t too far-fetched so that made it a bit more interesting for me. There were faeries and magical events, but it wasn’t too extreme.

The Darkest Part of the Forest Book Review |

I thought the characters were interesting and quite diverse. I always like a little bit of a LGBTQA thread through the story. It makes me admire the author because I think it needs to be discussed. One of the main characters is gay and totally accepted by the community around him.

The novel is narrated from two points of view, by both siblings. I thought this was a great way of telling the story, since you could see everything even when they aren’t together.

Without saying too much about it, the ending was great too.

I would definitely recommend this novel as an intro to fantasy, or to fantasy lovers.

Thank you to Hachette for my review copy.
