This Raging Light by Estelle Laure | Book Review
The story starts when Lucille is days away from starting senior year and realizes her mum isn’t coming back. Her mum has left her and her sister for what was meant to be a week or so for some alone time since their lives became too much for her, but since she was meant to be back by now, reality is setting in. With bills to pay and the thought of her sister being taken away hanging over her, Lucille tries to pull her life together. This Raging Light is amazingly well written. I will admit it took me a lot of weeks to read, but I actually read it in maybe 3 sittings. It’s a great story, albeit not a cheerful one, but certainly interesting and fast paced. I just love a great coming of age story with a twist, which this one definitely had.
It had both cute and deep characters, and also a great supporting cast of characters who filled the story up with all of their little tidbits. There were lovable and easily hated characters and a few ups and downs, which always makes things interesting.
I think if you are a fan of John Green, or David Levithan, or just a good teen fiction novel, definitely pick this up. It’s kind of the same levels of reality and teen drama that makes for a great tale.
Thanks to Hachette NZ for my review copy of This Raging Light.
