It might not quite have felt like it today, but Spring is coming soon!
A wardrobe full of pieces you can easily mix and match is the easiest way to pair together outfits. I like pairing light knits and lightweight pants with those items I already have in my wardrobe for the Spring season. Layering is also a great option, with lighter layers, with a coat or scarf over the top on a cooler day.
Pair any of these items with those you already have in your wardrobe to mix things up more. Wear the same jeans you wore all winter with any of these tops, or a maxi or skirt, or a warm shirt with any of the bottoms. Style tops both tucked in and loose with either pants. Add different shoes and scarves and bags to change up the smartness of any outfit. Pair stockings with the dress or skirt on a cooler day. You can carry most of these items into summer too, just pair them with slightly lighter pieces, like shorts. You could also wear heels or flats with any of these outfits too, depending on how dressy you want them to be.Adapt this style of wardrobe for your personal style and your work dress code. If you have a stricter dress code, leave the more casual items for the weekend or buy more shirts over knits. You can make this work any way for you.
There are a total of 16 options with these 9 pieces, if you mix and match each top with each bottom, with I could do for my lifestyle. If you want to see how many options you have in your own wardrobe, pull out all the items you love to wear on a regular basis that fit and don’t have any wear and tear. Then times the number of tops by number of bottoms and I’m sure you’ll be surprised at how many options you really have.
It helps if you can buy the kinds of tops that work with pants and skirts, and bottoms that work with lots of types of tops. This means that when you go to pair it with something new, you don’t look too off balance. This will save you money in the long run since you can always grab and throw an outfit together.
If you want to have a capsule wardrobe, it’s best to change out your makeup or accessories instead. These are quite often cheaper too, since you can get scarves or lipsticks for $10.
